Yachting
LOSS OR DAMAGE TO THE YACHT
The main factor in a yacht insurance programme is the policy that gives cover for physical loss or damage to the yacht itself, which will include but is not limited to:
- Hull and Superstructure
- Masts, Spars and Rigging
- Engines and Generators
- Machinery and Onboard Systems
- Electronics and Electrical Equipment
- Bridge Systems and Navigational Instruments
- Tenders, Water Craft and Water Sports Equipment
- Interior Fixtures, Fittings and Contents
- Artwork, Antiques and Objet D’art
- Personal Effects of Owner, Guests and Crew
If it forms part of the yacht then it can usually be included and, generally, this coverage will be on a comprehensive “All Risks” and “Agreed Value” basis.

CREW WELFARE
Taking care of the yacht’s crew is imperative in the safe and effective operation of a luxury yacht. Sturge have their own specialist Crew Welfare scheme that has been developed in tandem with the needs of the yachting industry over many years. The coverage is very comprehensive, highlighted by the following:

- 24/7 and 365 days cover
- Ashore or afloat, on or off duty
- Signed-on or on vacation
- Medical expenses, Doctors or Hospital fees for accidents or illness
- Lump-sum payments for accidental death or permanent disability
- Salary indemnity for temporary disablement
- Worldwide repatriation
- Crew replacement expenses
- Trauma counselling
- 24 hour emergency assistance
- MLC Compliant
LIABILITIES (PROTECTION & INDEMNITY)
Another key factor is providing coverage for the Assureds legal liability to the outside world and insuring against damage that the yacht or her crew may cause to third parties and their property. Risks covered include (but are not limited to):
- Damage caused to other yachts
- Crew negligence
- Liability arising out of the use of tenders and the yacht’s water craft
- Water sports liabilities – injuries to guests, damage to docks and harbours
- Pollution liability
- The Assureds legal liability to employed crew including MLC requirements

PRE-DELIVERY RISKS
For yachts under construction, the shipyard usually arranges the insurances for loss or damage to the yacht however we regularly arrange policies to cover the Assureds liability to paid crew that are on site plus their medical expenses and personal accident insurances. Owner supplied items and tenders etc in store or present at the shipyard can also be insured and protected.
BUILDERS RISKS, REFIT & RESTORATION
We are able to arrange customised insurance programmes for yachts that are in build or under major refit/alteration where a conventional yacht insurance policy is not appropriate. We also regularly place insurances for classic or vintage yachts that are being restored or rebuilt. Sturge have been involved with many projects that have seen new life breathed into famous yachts of the past.
AVIATION

- Loss or damage to aircraft hull and spare parts
